Syracuse University alumni, staff, faculty and fans are eagerly anticipating Syracuse University Day at Yankee Stadium II on June 30. SU alumnus Tom Coughlin ’68, G‘69, head coach of the New York Giants, will join in the festivities for this event. Last year 1,200 tickets were sold for the wildly popular event. Based upon that success the Yankees organization has allotted more Orange tickets for this year’s event. Tickets are on sale through June 4, or while supplies last.
The event is sponsored by the Syracuse University Alumni Association in conjunction with Joseph I. Lubin House—SU’s presence in New York City—and will begin at 11 a.m. when the gates open. The Yankees face the Chicago White Sox with game time set for 1:05 p.m.
"I am so excited for SU Day at the Yankees II,” says Syracuse University Alumni Association President Brian Spector ’78. The event began last year when Spector thought it would be a great marriage of sports traditions that could be celebrated by SU alums in the NY metropolitan area and beyond. “Last year was amazing, with more than a thousand alumni, family and friends sharing a great day—and a Yankee win—at the stadium. This year promises to be even bigger and better. I can't think of a better way to spend an early summer day rooting on the Yanks at the ballpark with so many of my Orange friends."
To that end, alumni clubs from across the region lead by Manhattan’s Big Apple Orange Alumni Club, Central New Jersey, Northern New Jersey and the Central New York chapter have been invited. The CNY group has chartered buses, which will depart from Manley Field House, to transport interested fans to NYC for the game.
A limited supply of last year’s special edition SU Yankee hats are on sale through the SU Bookstore and special SU Yankee t-shirts will be coming soon. Several seating levels at the stadium have already sold out, but grandstand seats remain, as do picnic options. Otto will be on hand for the day’s festivities and will be hanging out in the picnic areas.
