Syracuse has four distinct seasons. The autumns are beautiful with golden leaves and brisk sunny days. Snow covers the ground all winter; Syracuse averages 100 inches of snow each year. Students often take advantage of the winter climate to ski, sled, and ice skate. The campus comes alive in spring with blooming flowers and students playing Frisbee on the Quad. The summers are warm and sunny, perfect for outdoor activities.

Students are involved in more than 300 extracurricular organizations as well as a host of club, intramural, and varsity sports. Popular campus organizations include the student-run Daily Orange newspaper, the University Marching Band, and intramural sports. Students also attend concerts, guest lectures, events in the perfoming arts, on-campus movies, and watch SU teams play in the Carrier Dome.

Marshall Street, just steps from main campus, offers more than 30 unique restaurants and coffee shops, boutique shopping, an additional fitness center and other amenities. Recent campus performances include musicians Calvin Harris, Childish Gambino, Ludacris, and Rick Ross, to name a few. Upcoming events include a landmark two-day Peace Forum featuring  His Holiness the Dalai Llama.

Syracuse is a medium-sized city situated in the center of New York State. It is approximately 250 miles northwest of New York City. More than half a million people live in the metro area. Syracuse offers several recreational options, including parks, museums, art galleries, an equity theater group, a symphony orchestra, and numerous shopping malls and movie theaters. Syracuse is served by Hancock International Airport; Amtrak and Greyhound stations are minutes from campus.

No. Due to limited parking on campus, students usually walk to class and activities or events. Free shuttle busses constantly run between North and South Campus. The Connective Corridor shuttle bus runs between the University and many popular locations downtown. Students are also able to take a bus or shuttle to the Carousel Center Mall, the Regional Transportation Center (Amtrak and bus services), and Hancock International Airport.
