Today is the day to make a difference

White House Young America Series: Live From Syracuse University, one of 17 WHYAS events across the country, took place on April 18, 2012, with about 200 people participating in person in the Joyce Hergenhan Auditorium in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications and more watching the live webcast and contributing on Twitter (with the hashtag #WHatSU).

The focus was civic engagement, with conversation concentrated in three theme areas—inclusive urban education; environmental sustainability; and arts and humanities as catalysts for change.

The evening included speakers, a panel discussion, two spoken word performers and a lively audience dialogue involving Victoria McCullough, assistant to the director of the White House Office of Public Engagement, and Samuel Ryan, regional & youth outreach associate with the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Communications and Outreach.

And a special “From Story-to-Screen” student video contest was announced (http://imaginingamerica.org/consortium/ia-at-su/from-story-to-screen/).
